  • 1. Where is Holy Heavenly Lake?

    Holy Heavenly Lake is located in the city of Hesperia, California, next to the famous underground river, Mojave River. Hesperia is located in the High Desert, in the eastern part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. It is on Interstate 15, on the way to Las Vegas. 


    A high-speed train line by the rail company Brightline linking Los Angeles and Las Vegas is set to start construction in 2023 and will stop in Hesperia. The Hesperia station will be 11 miles from Holy Heavenly Lake. Buddhist Town will provide electric shuttle service from the station when completed. 

  • 2. When will Buddhist Town be completed?

    Buddhist Town will be developed in two phases. Phase One is estimated to be completed in 2027, and includes the main temple, True Dharma Temple, the lake, the plaza, and two other large temple complexes, Fa Chan Temple and Macang Yuan. Public programs will start operation then.

  • 3. Is Buddhist Town open to the public?

    Buddhist Town will be open to the public when Phase One construction is complete. Currently, it is closed to the public except for certain scheduled activities.   • 4. What kind of activities will be provided at Buddhist Town?

    Upon completion, Buddhist Town will operate with regular opening hours from 10am to 9pm for visitors. Visitors and tourists can enjoy the sightseeing, programs, performances, and displays of art and antiques of Buddhist cultures from different parts of the world. In addition to religious activities, there will be cultural and educational activities offered to the general public, such as summer camps for school children, sports, language learning, etc.

  • 5. Can we have a Buddhist wedding at Buddhist Town?

    Buddhist Town will have different venues for weddings, birthday parties, and other group gatherings.  Not only Buddhist wedding, all types of wedding ceremonies are welcome! A visitor service center and information center will be available for such arrangements.

  • 6. Can we stay overnight at Buddhist Town?

    Upon completion, some lodging will be provided on site for retreat attendees. However, in general the campus will be closed at 9pm for all public activities. Many convenient hotels and short-term rentals are available nearby.

  • 7. What types of Buddhist cultures will be represented in Buddhist Town?

    Currently, there are plans for Buddhist Town to host approximately thirty centers from around the world. These centers will belong to different sects of Buddhism, such as Zen, Pureland, Tiantai, Kagyu, Geluk, Theravada, etc. In addition to the religious activities, there will be related exhibitions of history, art, architecture, as well as virtual reality displays and performances to introduce Buddhist culture for the general public. For visitors who are interested in a particular school, they are welcome to visit the specific temple or center and explore their programs.
